Job Overview
The Produce Inventory Specialist is responsible for managing the ordering, restocking, and presentation of fresh produce while actively engaging in regional purchasing initiatives and promotional activities. This role involves overseeing inventory management and ensuring product availability according to Whole Foods Market's standards. Team Members are expected to uphold a positive image of the company by delivering exceptional service to customers and colleagues at all times. All responsibilities must align with the established Standard Operating Procedures of the team and store. Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively purchases and replenishes produce following proper procurement protocols.
  • Regularly reviews and addresses open purchase order reports for both acquisitions and returns promptly and accurately.
  • Minimizes spoilage and loss, meets turnover objectives, and participates in inventory counts.
  • Completes necessary documentation including spoilage, sampling, temperature logs, and cleaning checklists.
  • Enhances sales opportunities through efficient stocking and merchandising practices.
  • Ensures timely and precise ordering of products to optimize inventory turnover.
  • Manages customer special order requests efficiently.
  • Evaluates and regulates product transfers, waste, and spoilage levels.
  • Assists leadership in conducting regular inventory assessments.
  • Maintains financial success by achieving purchasing and sales goals.
  • Arrives at the work area punctually, well-groomed, and prepared for duties; adheres to scheduled shifts and participates in required training sessions.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service, promptly addressing customer needs and employing suggestive selling techniques; answers inquiries courteously.
  • Maximizes sales potential through effective preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising of products.
  • Ensures compliance with established procedures, including health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment, adhering to Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Performs assigned opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring accuracy in signage and pricing.
  • Reports safety hazards and violations immediately.
  • Undertakes additional tasks as assigned by store or regional leadership.
Required Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of produce products, including their production, distribution, seasonal availability, and market trends.
  • Willingness to learn about nutritional information and other relevant topics.
  • Proficient understanding of produce merchandising expectations.
  • A desire to grow within the Produce team.
  • Ability to educate team members on product knowledge and demonstrate enthusiasm.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Proficient in using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and respectfully to team members, customers, and suppliers.
  • Commitment to meeting customer service standards in all interactions.
  • Capability to follow instructions and procedures; effective time management and organizational skills.

Experience
  • A minimum of 12 months of retail experience.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking for 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning agents.
  • Exposure to various temperatures: below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other machinery.
  • May require the use of ladders.
