Role of the Substance Use Disorder Counselor:

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor plays a vital role in facilitating patient recovery from opioid use disorder. Counselors deliver empathetic, high-quality care through individual and group therapy sessions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver compassionate guidance in both individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Plan, manage, facilitate, and document patient recovery processes.
  • Co-facilitate assigned group or family therapy sessions as required.
  • Ensure timely and clear documentation of patient care, treatment, and incidents.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for each assigned patient.
  • Conduct initial assessments and follow-up evaluations.
  • Assess patient needs and determine if referrals to additional programs or facilities are necessary.
  • May coordinate aftercare plans for assigned patients.
  • Provide crisis intervention to patients as necessary.
  • Manage case responsibilities for patients, ensuring personalized quality care.
  • Act as a liaison between referral sources and patients as needed.
Compensation for positions at Colton Comprehensive Treatment Center varies based on numerous factors including specific location, role, skill set, and experience level.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • Preferred Bachelor's or Master's degree in social or health services field;
  • Degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • Prior experience and knowledge in addiction recovery and/or MAT (medication-assisted treatment) settings.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certification or License preferred.
  • Must be obtained from a CA approved Counselor Certification Organization (CAADE, CADTP or CCAPP); or
  • LMFT, LCSW, PhD or PsyD
