About the Role

Sol design + consulting is seeking a skilled Field Inspector to join our team of experts in green building certification services. As a Field Inspector, you will play a crucial role in providing on-site inspections, testing, and documentation to ensure the highest level of energy efficiency and sustainability in our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site building performance testing and inspections in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Perform energy efficiency tests, including air infiltration, HVAC duct tightness, ventilation airflow rates, combustion efficiency and safety, building pressures, and other relevant assessments.
  • Verify and document energy/green building features using company-provided procedures, checklists, and tools.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in recording and documenting all findings via clear photos and reports.
  • Read construction drawings and specifications to verify/coordinate energy/green building features.
  • Travel to job sites within a 100-mile radius, with occasional longer-distance travel.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment for each job site.
  • Evaluate own work for errors, omissions, and workmanship problems.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment and report any issues or concerns.
  • Record material and time usage on each job and submit bi-weekly reports.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations set forth by the company and governmental agencies.
  • Report and correct any hazardous conditions encountered during inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the Testing & Verification needs of the office.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Building Science or equivalent experience in a construction trade, such as HVAC, electrical, insulation, or carpentry.
  • 1-3 years of experience in construction or energy rating is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and appliances is preferred.
  • Experience operating test equipment, such as blower doors, thermal imaging cameras, CO meters, duct blasters, etc.
  • Aptitude for interpreting architectural drawings and construction specifications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and program concepts in written and verbal form to builders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and online project workflow tools.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Basic math skills, including geometry.
  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs., climb ladders, and follow safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in small spaces, such as attics and crawl spaces.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for buildings and energy efficiency.
