Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician) Job Description

Mediacom Communications is a leading provider of cable television, broadband services, and home security solutions. As a Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician), you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional customer experiences and ensuring the highest level of service quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and Maintenance: Install and maintain cable television and broadband services in customer homes, ensuring seamless connectivity and optimal performance.
  • Customer Representation: Drive company vans and represent Mediacom to customers, providing excellent customer service and resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Technical Expertise: Perform a variety of duties, including installation, changes of service, additional outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and special requests, utilizing technical skills and knowledge to resolve complex issues.
  • Quality Control: Analyze picture quality and judge acceptability of picture delivered following installation of cable service, ensuring that customers receive the best possible viewing experience.
  • Tool Proficiency: Use customary CATV hand and power tools in performance of job duties, including reading signal levels through use of field strength meter and adding and subtracting levels in installation problems.
  • Physical Demands: Install connectors on different types of drop cable, climb poles with proper equipment, and properly use, store, and maintain a VOM or DMM to check for "open" or "short" online as well as AC and DC voltages.
  • Customer Education: Inform customers of FCC Rules and Company policies as they pertain to customers, ensuring that they are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Vehicle Operation: Drive company vehicles in performance of job duties, including using bucket trucks to access elevated areas.
  • General Assistance: Perform other duties, such as clean-up and salvage of wrecked out materials, and provide general assistance to other employees as directed.
Requirements:
  • Technical Knowledge: General level of mechanical and consumer devices knowledge, with ability to learn and apply new technical skills.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required, to meet the needs of customers and the company.
