Job Summary

This position supports the Radiation Control Bureau by providing leadership, direction, and oversight of staff who review, process, and manage permits, licenses, and certifications related to materials and x-ray machine facilities throughout the state to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of technical staff in establishing team goals and workload priorities to ensure completion of program functions
  • Provide technical and regulatory direction to program staff
  • Create pathways for staff growth, development, and accountability
  • Perform all personnel actions related to direct reports (evaluations, job orders for vacant positions, interviews, and all necessary documentation)
  • Supervise and motivate staff effectively, including daily project guidance and coordination of training to ensure that inspections are documented and completed within assigned time frames
  • Manage tracking and accomplishment of annual compliance inspections goals with the unit supervisor
  • Participate in planning activities
  • Assign, delegate, and track tasks to ensure employee accountability on assignments (being accurate, professional, and timely)
  • Work on and/or manage special projects as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. In-state travel is required up to 20% of the time with optional out-of-state travel. Position requires extensive communication and interaction with contractors, the regulated community, environmental non-profit organizations, and the general public.
