Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the Corrections Medical Division functions, activities, and services for Santa Fe County. This role assists with duties of the highest level of importance and complexity, working under the general supervision of the Warden and direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA).

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet nursing operational standards by contributing to strategic plans and reviews, implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, training, and mentorship to RN, LPN, and other positions by planning, directing, and coordinating their workloads and schedules.
  • Identify patient care requirements by making rounds, communicating, and establishing personal rapport with patients.
  • Develop and coordinate schedules and assignments and follow up on work results. Serve as a resource to staff by assisting to resolve issues.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and support to patients of the Facility and answering questions and inquiries regarding their health care needs.
  • Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other responsibilities.
  • Establish patient care goals, teach, and mentor patients as needed.
  • Provide information in writing and orally to patients and the Corrections health care team.
  • Resolve patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by implementing procedures, rules, and regulations under the direction of the Health Services Administrator; calling for assistance from other health care professionals when necessary.
  • Provide immediate follow-up, documentation, and communication of incidents to the appropriate supervisor and the Warden.
  • Respond to emergency situations and assist as necessary.
  • Protect patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols, enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records timely and regularly.
  • Ensure operation of medical administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Consistently follow and provide guidance to health care teams to ensure they follow safety and infection control policies and procedures. Intervene in unsafe situations when observed or called to the attention of the Clinical Nurse Supervisor.
  • Maintain nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends; anticipating needed supplies; approving requisitions and cost allocations.
  • Maintain professional technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods and addressing performance deficiencies and misconduct in a timely manner.
  • Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including all applicable state, federal, and local requirements.
Requirements
  • Current registered nurse licensure in the State of New Mexico.
  • Must have 5 years of work experience as a New Mexico Registered Nurse, two (2) of the five (5) years must have been supervisory.
