Summary

Under the supervision of the Presiding Judge and Court Administrator, the Municipal Court Operations Assistant is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while performing various administrative tasks to support court functions. This role involves interaction with both internal and external stakeholders regarding municipal court citations, which may include violations of the Penal Code, Traffic Laws, City Ordinances, and State Statutes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the public in person and via phone, providing information and guidance on court processes, warrant details, and compliance options;
  • Coordinate scheduling for various court proceedings, including jury trials, non-jury trials, juvenile hearings, civil cases, and more;
  • Facilitate driver safety courses and deferred disposition options related to court cases;
  • Process payments for fines and fees accurately, maintain financial records, and balance cash drawers;
  • Input citation data into court management software to ensure accurate record-keeping;
  • Compile, type, and file a diverse range of court documents, including citations, summons, and reports;
  • Analyze inquiries swiftly to resolve citations in accordance with legal standards;
  • Learn and apply relevant laws, codes, and procedures for processing court documents;
  • Handle paperwork from the jail, including bonds and payment requests;
  • Utilize multiple software applications while assisting customers through various communication channels;
  • Manage court documentation and assist with daily courtroom operations, ensuring accurate scheduling and case preparation;
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and information;
  • Communicate effectively with the public and keep the Presiding Judge and Court Administrator informed of relevant issues;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED, with coursework in typing and computer operations;
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for specific educational requirements;
  • Three years of experience in customer service, data entry, and cash handling;
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of customer service principles and basic office practices;
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic and written communication.

Abilities
  • Interact courteously with others;
  • Comprehend and interpret court policies and documents;
  • Maintain accurate records;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively;
  • Operate a personal computer and various office equipment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods;
  • Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds;
  • Fine motor skills for typing and document handling;
  • Frequent reaching and bending;
  • Continuous ability to talk, see, and hear.
