Position Overview: As a vital member of the SkyWater Technology Information Technology team, the Principal IT Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the hands-on design, execution, and upkeep of IT infrastructures. This position is instrumental in modernizing our technological landscape, ensuring the delivery of robust and reliable systems. Your expertise will significantly influence the adoption of innovative technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a team to oversee and enhance our VMWare infrastructure, adhering to operational standards and best practices.
  • Engage in the management and optimization of our NetApp systems, ensuring compliance with established operational protocols.
  • Oversee system maintenance and tools, including patch management, configuration adjustments, and monitoring activities.
  • Support and maintain both physical and virtual servers across various operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows, VMWare), focusing on patching and monitoring tasks.
  • Drive performance optimization for mission-critical systems.
  • Contribute to strategic planning efforts, providing valuable insights into the infrastructure roadmap.
  • Proactively ensure maximum infrastructure availability both on-premises and in cloud environments.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive backup strategy to facilitate file recovery and disaster recovery scenarios, ensuring business continuity.
  • Manage identity and compliance platforms, including PKI, ADFS, MFA, IAM, and DLP.
  • Plan and execute systems automation initiatives.
  • Enhance physical and virtual server infrastructure across the organization.
  • Coordinate the rollout of new equipment and software.
  • Perform necessary hardware and software upgrades.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network-related issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation for server infrastructure.
  • Act as a liaison with stakeholders for new system designs and implementations.
  • Develop and maintain scripts to automate current manual processes.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff members.

This role may involve additional duties as assigned. The percentage of time allocated to specific responsibilities may vary.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Education:

  • Over 10 years of experience as an IT Systems Administrator/Engineer, preferably in organizations with 500+ employees.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and Google (IDCS knowledge is a plus).
  • Proficient in server operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix).
  • Experience with de-duplication, NetApp storage administration, and VMWare management.
  • Familiarity with Cisco compute, blade, and standalone systems.
  • Experience in virtualization technologies (VMWARE, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of system monitoring tools and data collection (e.g., Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk).
  • Experience in developing comprehensive backup strategies, preferably utilizing cloud solutions.
  • Familiarity with authentication technologies and frameworks (MFA, OAuth, SAML).
  • Experience with Active Directory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications are advantageous.
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Java, Perl, Python) are beneficial.
  • Database administration experience (Oracle, SQL Server) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience with Azure Server Management and Azure Automation Desired State Configuration is desirable.
