Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee critical components of the front-end revenue cycle coding process, including CD coding denials, CRM, and Credit Inquires.
  • Supervise a team of coding specialists, including hiring, onboarding, performance appraisals, and disciplinary action.
  • Coordinate work schedules and tasks for optimal productivity and cross-coverage.
  • Assure consistent and annual education training and certification of all staff members.
  • Perform accurate and timely review, coding, and abstracting of UTSW accounts utilizing ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT code sets.
  • Maintain current understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and coding guidelines.
  • Assist in upholding coding team expectations, customer service standards, professionalism, operating procedures, processes, and other team strategies and goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or closely related field and three (3) years progressive coding experience.
  • Or Associate Degree in Health Information Management and/or closely related field and five (5) years progressive coding experience.
  • Or High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years progressive coding experience.
  • Experience must include at least one (1) year in a lead capacity.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P), CMC, RHIT, RHIA, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office area.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
