Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector Supervisor to join our team at Dallas County. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for overseeing the inspection of buildings to ensure compliance with program regulations and County policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of Building Inspectors to ensure effective delivery of services.
  • Investigate complaints regarding code violations and zoning ordinances, diagnose problems, and resolve disputes.
  • Conduct on-site visits to inspections in progress, train staff on effective inspection techniques, and conduct final inspections to ensure acceptable standards.
  • Review staff paperwork for completeness and accuracy, maintain reports, and provide accurate accountability of inspection activities.
  • Evaluate the performance of staff to determine productivity, effectiveness, and staff developmental training needs.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Arts, Business, Construction, or a related field of study.
  • Four (4) years of work-related experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of standard software applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and regulations relating to electrical, plumbing, and gas installations in residential buildings.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.
  • Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.
  • Ability to travel to various work site locations.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, stretching, lifting, and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to work in varying conditions, surroundings, and weather conditions.
