Job Title: Mechanical Systems Technician

Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Instrumentation Systems Group, you will provide technical support for the operation of complex beam line instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for existing and new beam instrumentation systems.
  • Work with engineers and technical teams to develop, maintain, and upgrade instrumentation systems.
  • Successfully complete periodic training in environmental, health, and safety procedures.
  • Work safely and follow applicable procedures and policies.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus a technical institute or Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL or a technical high school certification program.
  • Must have the ability to work with electronic/mechanical systems.
  • The ability to work from mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with mechanical fabrications, knowledge of machine shop practices, micrometers, height gauges, fabrications using milling machines and lathes.
  • Familiarity with computers and computer-generated drawings.
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be committed to working safely under strict guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus a technical institute, Adult BOCES certification, AA degree in a technical field, CCI program completion at BNL plus 2 years of experience or a technical high school certification program and 3 years of relevant work experience or 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Training, education, and/or experience with precision electrical/mechanical operating systems.
  • CNC experience is desirable.
  • Experience with UHV systems and clean room operations.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
  • Will receive periodic training on environmental, health, and safety rules.
  • Responsible for following all the rules and keeping refresher training up to date.
  • Lifting of 30 pounds, ability to climb a ladder.
