Position Overview:
The Loan Review Specialist plays a crucial role in managing credit risk through comprehensive evaluations. This position involves conducting thorough assessments of the organization's commercial, consumer, and real estate loans to ensure adherence to established guidelines and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibility 1: Review of Commercial and Agricultural Loans - 50%

Execute independent evaluations of commercial, agricultural, and commercial real estate loans to identify emerging risks and confirm the reliability of the organization's risk rating systems and lending protocols. Engage in ongoing assessments of all types of commercial loans and commitments. Verify the accuracy of assigned risk ratings. Analyze underwriting evaluations regarding cash flow, repayment sources, policy compliance, exception approvals, guarantor, and collateral considerations. Adjust risk ratings as necessary based on findings from the review. Ensure that booked loans align with approved terms and structures. Confirm that underwriters' actions are within their designated lending authority. Validate that loan documentation meets both bank and legal standards. Assess the quality and substance of underwriter-prepared credit presentations and approval documentation, providing guidance on improvements. Compile and deliver written reports summarizing findings and identified risks. Follow up on necessary corrective actions identified during reviews.

Responsibility 2: Credit Risk Monitoring - 20%

Investigate and present post-analysis reports to the Credit Governance Committee regarding significant credit losses. Conduct impairment assessments to support allowance estimations. Report on credit risk metrics to bolster the organization's key risk indicator program.

Responsibility 3: Review of Small Business Loans - 15%

Perform independent evaluations of small business lending practices, including the application of automated scoring systems. Sample small business loan approvals to test compliance with established policies and defined scoring criteria. Ensure that overrides receive the necessary approvals. Review periodic scoring system reports to evaluate system usage and controls. Sample small business loan files to confirm proper documentation and closure.

Responsibility 4: Review of Consumer and Residential Loans - 15%

Conduct independent evaluations of consumer and residential real estate lending practices, including the use of automated scoring systems. Sample direct and indirect consumer loan approvals to test compliance with established policies and relevant consumer lending regulations. Review scoring system reports to assess system usage and controls. Sample approved and declined overrides identified by the system to ensure proper approvals. Sample loan files to ensure proper closure and documentation. Sample residential real estate loan approvals to ensure compliance with bank policies for retained loans.

Position Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. A minimum of three to five years of experience in banking, specifically in commercial lending, regulatory examinations, or internal loan review. Prior experience in commercial lending and/or specific training in loan review is essential. In-depth knowledge of banking lending principles, policies, and practices. Proficient in analyzing consumer and commercial financial statements. Familiarity with documentation standards for commercial, consumer, and residential real estate.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to meet the following demands with or without reasonable accommodation:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and utilizing office equipment. Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately eight hours daily. Extended time spent reviewing both physical and electronic documents. Occasional requirements to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Close vision is necessary for this role. Occasionally, light lifting of supplies and materials weighing around 20 lbs. may be required. The majority of work will be conducted in an indoor environment.
