We are seeking a dedicated full-time Animal Intake Operations Supervisor to become part of our inclusive, open-admission animal shelter. As a for-all shelter, SPCA Tampa Bay is committed to accepting all animals in need, without limitations. In this pivotal role within the operations team, you will oversee the intake department and significantly contribute to our community's welfare.


Position Summary:

Your primary responsibility will be to guide and manage the intake processes for stray animals, owner surrenders, and requests for humane euthanasia. You will supervise daily departmental operations, including staff scheduling and public interaction.


Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Guide and manage the intake procedures for all strays, owner surrenders, and humane euthanasia requests.
  • Provide support and alternatives to pet owners contemplating relinquishment.
  • Gather comprehensive behavioral and medical histories from clients surrendering their pets, adhering to established protocols and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with the veterinary services team to determine suitable outcomes for incoming animals.
  • Administer initial medical treatments, including vaccinations and preventative care.
  • Schedule intake personnel to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Deliver friendly, responsive, and personalized service to all clients.
  • Maintain accurate records and input data into the designated shelter management software.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings, training sessions, and focus groups.
  • Represent SPCA Tampa Bay with professionalism at all times.

Qualifications:
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong customer service skills and a passion for animal welfare.
  • Critical thinking skills for effective decision-making.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Proficient in using computers, tablets, printers, copiers, telephones, fax machines, and smartphones.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Integrity and the ability to foster trust-based relationships.
  • Knowledge of humane animal care and handling practices.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Sound judgment and adaptability in various situations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and shelter management software.

Physical Requirements:
  • Occasional exposure to animal waste and risk of scratches or bites.
  • Engagement in activities involving animals of various species, sizes, and breeds.
  • Physical tasks may include lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to high noise levels, particularly in animal housing areas.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

  • Flexibility in work hours is required.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Ability to pass background checks is mandatory.
  • Certification as a euthanasia technician is preferred.
