Nature of Work

This role is essential for delivering lifeguarding expertise and contributing to the Aquatics Management Team. The position operates under the direct guidance of the Aquatics Coordinator and encompasses all tasks related to the effective management and secure operation of a municipal swimming facility.

Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees and directs aquatic staff for lifeguarding and instructional activities by planning, scheduling, and supporting team members.


This position will participate in the lifeguard rotation throughout the day and provide coverage during staff absences.


Assists in formulating daily operational procedures and exemplifies adherence to these protocols.

Offers leadership and mentorship to team members, enhancing their performance and safety practices.

Facilitates the orientation and onboarding of new hires.

Ensures the swimming facilities comply with local health standards.

Addresses inquiries from staff and the public courteously and resolves conflicts promptly.

Guarantees the safety of both staff and patrons by ensuring the appropriate number of lifeguards are on duty at all times.

Engages in lifeguarding duties, teaches swimming lessons, and manages the facility as necessary.

Responsible for monitoring and maintaining accurate chemical readings, records, and chemical levels, along with pump room operations, making adjustments as needed.


Must be flexible with scheduling, rotating with other Head Lifeguard staff, which will frequently include evenings and weekends.

This is a full-time role, requiring up to 40 hours of work per week.

Recommends and manages routine personnel matters affecting staff, including interviewing candidates, hiring, scheduling, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations.


Schedules and/or conducts regular maintenance of the entire pool area, including filtration systems, activity pools, lap pools, and other amenities.

Oversees the aquatic program, which encompasses various levels of swimming lessons, water fitness, and additional aquatic initiatives.

Assists in preparing the pool schedule and promoting registration and participation.

May participate in special events throughout the year as requested.

Driving is a crucial aspect of this position.

Education and Experience

Must be at least 18 years old and possess current certifications in:

Lifeguard Training, C.P.R. (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED.
W.S.I. (Water Safety Instructor) is preferred but not mandatory.

Prior experience in aquatics, including a minimum of 2 years in lifeguarding and swim instruction, with 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.

Basic knowledge of pool maintenance or a combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Supplemental Information
Requires a valid Colorado Driver's License and a clean driving record.

Must successfully pass a background check, physical examination, and drug screening.

Starting Pay is $20.43

DESCRIPTION & BENEFITS

Regular Full-Time

Employee works in a position that is classified as 40 hours per week. Eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, and LTD insurance; pension and general leave, along with optional benefits.

Regular Part-Time 30+

Employee works in a position that is classified as 30+ hours per week. The City contributes towards employee-only medical and dental insurance. Employees can cover their spouse and/or children by paying the difference. Life & LTD insurance coverage is provided. Employees participate in the City's pension plan, with contributions made by the City. Employees accrue general leave on a pro-rated basis and have access to optional benefits.

Regular Part-Time 20+

Employee works in a position that is classified as 20+ hours per week but less than 30 hours. The City contributes towards employee-only medical insurance. Employees accrue general leave on a pro-rated basis, and the City contributes 3.75% towards deferred compensation and optional benefits.
