Purpose & Scope:

The Clinical Technician III plays a vital role in the healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. This position requires empathy, good communication, and nursing skills to provide exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities include performing direct patient care, observing patient status, maintaining a clean and safe environment, transporting patients, and other related duties. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain a high level of professionalism.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 year of experience as a Clinical Technician II, or completion of a training program meeting core skills and competencies, or successful completion of the VHC Health Nurse Externship Program.
Certification and Licensure:

BLS Certification is required.

Physical Requirements:

The Clinical Technician III must be able to perform the following physical demands:

  • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Coping with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
  • Operating office machines safely and in accordance with hospital safety standards.
  • Pushing patients on stretchers, wheelchairs, or beds from one area to another.
Working Conditions:

The Clinical Technician III works in a well-lighted and ventilated office/clinical setting, subject to frequent interruptions. The position requires long hours, changing shifts, and may involve working beyond normal working hours when requested. Routine occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, and/or musculoskeletal injuries may occur. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary for instances of exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious processes, and is supplied by the hospital. The position involves interacting with patients, family members, co-workers, and visitors under all conditions, including hostile and/or emotionally upset, disoriented, or combative individuals.
