Job Summary

As a Transportation Surveyor with the Department of Water Resources, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our surveying operations. You will work as a member of a survey crew, performing boundary, control, hydrographic, topographic, and construction surveys on a variety of projects related to flood control, environmental protection, water conveyance facilities, species conservation, and recreation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys in all types of terrain across the state of California, including on water bodies and rugged topography
  • Work independently or as part of a survey crew, responsible to a supervisor at the work site
  • Interact with the public and provide information about our projects and operations
  • Meet the minimum qualifications for a Transportation Surveyor (Caltrans) and produce evidence of minimum qualifications before being considered eligible for appointment

Requirements

  • Valid California driver's license
  • Ability to travel around the state for a week at a time
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs. across a distance on steep and uneven terrain
