Our esteemed Gulf Gate Library is seeking a dedicated Librarian to oversee and enhance Youth Services initiatives, engage in analytical tasks, and manage collections. While the primary emphasis will be on leadership in Youth Services, there will also be opportunities to collaborate with teens and adults through intergenerational programming.

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $52,936.00 annually, accompanied by benefits that commence within 60 days of employment, along with numerous avenues for professional growth and advancement.

Position Overview

In this capacity, you will:

  • Uphold service standards as a representative of Sarasota County, ensuring inquiries are addressed promptly and courteously.
  • Develop partnerships and conduct outreach with local organizations, schools, and community groups to promote library services and facilitate programming.
  • Stay informed about developments, trends, and innovations in library services.
  • Create a welcoming and secure environment, assessing safety and risk factors.
  • Clarify objectives, policies, and procedures for both staff and the public.
  • Engage in and/or lead training sessions, community meetings, and activities related to library advisory boards.
  • Deliver presentations to community stakeholders and at professional gatherings.
  • Provide instruction to individuals and groups on utilizing library resources and learning tools.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational and literacy programs, with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math).
  • Compose and develop promotional materials, including book reviews, flyers, and web content.
  • Assist in the selection and curation of library materials.
  • Make recommendations for acquisitions in alignment with library policies.
  • Manage special collections effectively.
  • Maintain awareness of literature and best practices in the field.
  • Incorporate research and trends into strategic planning.
  • Lead, develop, and assess special projects and library services.
  • Compile and analyze statistical and budgetary information.
  • Encourage ongoing professional development for yourself and others.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Availability required from Sunday to Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Work schedules may vary due to operational needs.
  • Reassignment to different locations within the library system may occur to meet service demands.
Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • -OR- Bachelor's degree with enrollment in a MLS/MLIS program, with the ability to complete the degree within twelve months of hire.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience in a library setting.

Additional Information: This position requires passing a pre-employment substance screening. Failure to pass will result in disqualification from employment for five years.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits
