About the Position

The Gulf Gate Library is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to patrons, promoting literacy and lifelong learning, and contributing to the development of our library's collections and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective customer service strategies to ensure prompt and efficient resolution of patron inquiries.
  • Promote the use of library resources and technology through training programs and individual assistance.
  • Assist patrons in locating information and resources, including interlibrary loan services and referrals to external agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in libraries and information technology to provide expert guidance to patrons.
  • Represent the library and Sarasota County in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare promotional materials, such as reviews, press releases, and bibliographies, to showcase library resources and programs.
  • Analyze patron needs and develop plans to meet those needs, collaborating with other library staff and community agencies as necessary.
  • Network with other libraries and agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.
About the Schedule

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. Employees must be available to work based on business needs.

Gulf Gate Library Hours of Operation:

  • Monday - Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • This location is currently closed on Sunday, but hours may change in the future.
About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree with enrollment in an MLS/MLIS program and the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a library environment.
  • Skills in using various electronic devices, including Kindles, Nooks, tablets, and iPads, and the ability to train patrons in their use.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay: $52,936.00

Our interview process may include phone interviews, Microsoft Teams video interviews, and/or in-person interviews.

2. U.S. Social Security Card (signed, physical card). This is a requirement of our Payroll Department and failure to provide this document could jeopardize timely compensation.
