Behavioral Support Technician

Position Summary:
The Behavioral Support Technician (BST) plays a crucial role in delivering applied behavior analysis services to individuals diagnosed with developmental challenges, pediatric feeding issues, or other behavioral conditions under the supervision of a qualified behavior analyst (such as a board-certified behavior analyst or licensed psychologist).
Qualifications:
Essential:
- High school diploma or GED
- Current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification
- Successful completion of the RBT Competency Assessment of the BACB prior to or within one month of employment
- Must pass the RBT examination within three months of employment
Desirable:
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral conditions in educational, instructional, or therapeutic environments
Essential:
- Current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
Applied Behavior Analysis Services
- Conduct therapy sessions with clients following established protocols under the guidance of a professional behavior analyst
- Provide recommendations for potential procedures and techniques to a professional behavior analyst
- Support the professional behavior analyst in the implementation of intake, assessment, treatment, and discharge processes
- Prepare preliminary drafts of session materials, descriptions, and progress reports
- Input assessment and treatment data into spreadsheets and create graphical representations of the data
- Document observable and measurable behaviors and environmental factors for review by a professional behavior analyst and provide updates on goals
- Conduct initial analyses of findings and present suggestions to a professional behavior analyst
- Assist in developing data collection methods and systems
- Aid in the creation of skill acquisition programs (e.g., enhancing acceptance and consumption of nutritious foods, developing feeding skills such as self-feeding or chewing, social and communication skills, curriculum-based developmental skills)
- Support the development of behavior reduction strategies (e.g., extinction protocols to mitigate inappropriate mealtime behaviors, non-contingent reinforcement to reduce distress, functional communication training)
- Assist in training caregivers (e.g., parents, educational staff)
- Help maintain organization, cleanliness, and upkeep of the department's location, materials, and equipment
- Collaborate with clinical faculty and professional behavior analysts on various research projects
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move, lift, and carry clients and objects
- May require independently lifting up to fifty (50) pounds and assisting with weights exceeding one hundred (100) pounds
- Utilization of abdominal and lower back muscles to provide sustained support without fatigue
- Frequent movement, limb use, and good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Capability to stand or sit for extended periods
Additional Responsibilities:
- BSTs may work with clients who exhibit challenging behaviors, including vomiting, aggression, self-injury, elopement, or property damage
