Role Responsibilities

As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the surgical team, assisting the lead surgeon throughout procedures. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Exhibiting the necessary technical knowledge and skills as per regulatory standards.
  • Engaging with the surgeon pre-operatively to clarify specific requirements.
  • Facilitating effective communication within the surgical team.
  • Assisting with patient positioning and preparation in line with established protocols.
  • Anticipating the surgeon's needs to streamline procedures and minimize patient stress.
  • Monitoring patient temperature in coordination with anesthesia personnel.
  • Providing retraction and exposure assistance during surgeries.
  • Supporting hemostasis through suction, irrigation, and sponging.
  • Assisting with suturing and stapling under the surgeon's guidance.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assisting program and possession of the CSFA credential.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in an operating room environment, preferably in an ambulatory surgery setting.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant (CSA).
  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment.
