Job Summary

As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, you will play a vital role in the operating room, anticipating the needs of the surgical team and establishing a sterile field during procedures. Reporting to the Clinical Director/Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the sterility of all supplies and instruments, retaining specimens for pathology, and transporting surgical equipment to cleaning areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup of surgical procedures.
  • Retain all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming the source/name of the specimen with the surgeon.
  • Transport all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas and assist in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
  • Use Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
  • Follow all equipment and safety guidelines and be responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
  • Comply with Policies & Procedures and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Surgical Technician Program
  • NBSTSA Surgical First Assistant Certification required
  • Two years of Certified Surgical First Assistant experience in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
