About the Role

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate Scientist to join our Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) Drug Discovery Unit. As a key member of our biology and cross-functional discovery teams, you will play a critical role in delivering an industry-leading portfolio of drugs for various gastrointestinal, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute preclinical development strategies to support candidate selection, facilitating efficient clinical validation of impactful medicines for patients with inflammatory disorders.
  • Apply deep scientific and technical expertise in immunology and/or cell biology to mature innovative novel concepts within our team, in matrixed collaboration with other Takeda scientists, and external partners.
  • Drive an inclusive, open, and effective culture in a fast-growing drug discovery group.
Accountabilities
  • Generate data packages supporting candidate selection and asset characterization based on current in vitro methods, including immortalized cell lines, primary cell cultures, and multicellular or organoid culture models.
  • Champion scientific integrity and rigor in preparation and interpretation of detailed protocols/SOPs.
  • Independently plan assignments for a research work group or project, troubleshoot complex problems, and change experimental design if necessary.
  • Develop and validate new methods to support completion of complex assignments within a project.
  • Exercise independent judgment in selecting methods, coordinating efforts, evaluating criteria for obtaining results, and utilizing technical literature to implement novel procedures.
  • Interpret and analyze data, helping to incorporate results into overall scientific projects, and independently generate novel hypotheses.
  • Maintain a proactive and vocal approach to improving departmental efficiency.
  • Summarize and present literature data within the department and occasionally to a broader audience.
Requirements
  • MS in a scientific discipline with 3+ years' experience, or BS with 5+ years' experience.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following assay methods: ELISA/MSD, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry, ChIP.
  • Experience with cell culture, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary immune cell subsets.
  • Direct experience with the principles, models, and pathways of autoimmunity, inflammation, and/or fibrosis.
  • Experience developing and/or evaluating small molecule, biologic, and/or nucleic acid therapeutics.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with in vivo study design/execution.
  • Modern high-dimensional gene expression analysis (i.e., scRNAseq).
  • Multicellular culture systems (i.e., organoids).
What We Offer

Takeda Pharmaceuticals offers a competitive salary range of $96,000 to $151,800, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-term incentives, medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits.
