Position Overview:

The Windows Systems Administrator will play a crucial role in supporting the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) at Patrick Space Force Base. This position focuses on the management and upkeep of Windows server environments, ensuring their security, efficiency, and adherence to Department of Defense (DoD) standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in Windows server management, virtualization technologies, and Active Directory, coupled with a proactive mindset for problem resolution in a collaborative team setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Windows Server Management: Execute the installation, configuration, and administration of Windows Server 2016 and later versions.
  • Cybersecurity Compliance: Tackle cybersecurity compliance challenges, complete STIG checklists, and maintain hardware inventories and test plans. Address findings and document Plans of Action and Milestones (POAM).
  • Virtualization Optimization: Enhance virtualization performance utilizing VMware and Windows tools. Monitor VM snapshots and collaborate with team members to refine virtualization strategies.
  • Fault Monitoring: Conduct daily monitoring and reporting of hardware/software issues, initiate service tickets, and work with vendor support for unresolved matters.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide support for Microsoft Windows servers and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), ensuring compliance with relevant policies.
  • Patch Management: Oversee server and database patching through Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), ensuring compliance with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS).
  • Active Directory Administration: Manage administrative tasks in Active Directory and Directory Resource Administrator (DRA), including user account management and security group configurations.
  • File System Configuration: Set up and maintain NTFS permissions, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and share permissions.
  • Data Backup and Integrity: Perform system backups, verify data integrity, and execute data restoration across networks.
  • Project Coordination: Lead server upgrades, data migrations, and P2V conversions using tools such as robocopy and Quest Secure Copy.
  • Automation Development: Create scripts for job scheduling and automation, utilizing PowerShell and other tools for effective system management.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including performance reports and status updates.
  • Emergency Support: Provide on-call support within one hour, offering both telephone and on-site assistance as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Windows Server Administration.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Required Certifications: IAT Level 2 Certification (one of the following: CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP) and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS).
  • Desired Certifications: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Administering & Deploying SCCM, Server+.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, and scripting languages. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Security Clearance: Must possess a Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.

Work Environment:

The Systems Administrator will primarily operate within a secured government facility, adhering to strict security protocols. The role may involve periodic on-call support to address critical IT system issues outside of standard working hours.
