Job Summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our pharmacists in delivering high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in advanced roles in all practice settings to expand the scope of pharmacist practice, promote efficiency, and improve patients' access to care.
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence and skills in building professional relationships with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform a range of tasks, including obtaining medication histories, updating patient allergy and adverse drug reactions, and reporting quality-related events.
  • Manage, market, and promote efficient bedside dispensing of medications, as well as coordinate medication synchronization and adherence monitoring.
  • Identify, schedule, and room patients for value-added pharmacist clinical services, and administer immunizations as appropriate.
  • Investigate benefits, obtain prior authorization, and manage patient assistance programs.
  • Perform final product verification and additional tasks delegated by pharmacists.
Specialty Technician Responsibilities
  • Specialty technicians may be responsible for performing and duties and responsibilities listed above.
  • Responsible for care coordination by communicating with patients, clinic partners, payers, and external pharmacies as appropriate.
  • Partner with providers and clinics to promote the use of entity-owned pharmacies.
  • Document in the electronic medical record to promote efficient and accurate care for patients in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Follow procedures to ensure medications are dispensed accurately and prepared appropriately for shipment or delivery to the patient.
  • Identify medications requiring special storage or handling, such as refrigerated, hazardous, or controlled substances.

  • Think system-wide regarding processes and functions.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of a pharmacy technician program preferred.
  • Three years of pharmacy technician experience.
Certification, Licensure, and Registration
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.
  • CPR or BLS certified.
  • ACPE Accredited Immunization Training Certification.
  • Illinois Licensure required, if employed in Illinois.
  • Wisconsin Pharmacy Technician Registration required, if employed in Wisconsin.
