The Law School serves a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, and the successful candidate will need to engage effectively across these varied communities.


Key Responsibilities

Payroll Coordination and Management - 50%

  • Act as the time and absence administrator; generate reports and employee queries to ensure accurate timekeeping and job data records for all personnel; input corrections as necessary.
  • Develop and implement best practices for internal process improvements to ensure seamless execution of payroll and HR operations.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to provide guidance on complex payroll hiring processes prior to submission.
  • Serve as a resource for inquiries regarding payroll and HR policies, ensuring compliance with applicable agreements and regulations.
  • Stay informed on updates regarding HRMS and payroll systems, participating in relevant committees and workgroups.
  • Monitor critical deadlines for data entry and approvals, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to the Law School community on updates to payroll systems.
  • Address non-routine inquiries and propose solutions for system-related issues.
  • Identify key personnel for various awards and appointments, ensuring accurate data entry.
  • Work collaboratively with departments to enhance efficiency and address inquiries.
  • Assist with internal audits and quality control as required.

HR Generalist Duties - 45%

  • Serve as the primary administrator for I-9 documentation.
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR inquiries, providing information and support.
  • Collaborate with departments to manage appointments and submissions.
  • Maintain electronic HR files and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit letters for temporary and student appointments.
  • Regularly audit position management to ensure compliance with reporting structures and classifications.

Professional Development and Additional Responsibilities - 5%

  • Support HR team operations to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Engage in professional development and process improvement initiatives.
  • Complete other assigned tasks essential to the HR team's success.

Working Conditions

This is a hybrid role, requiring on-campus presence one to two days per week initially, with flexibility as the role's responsibilities are established.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in payroll processing and auditing.
  • Ability to handle confidential and time-sensitive information.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Familiarity with University of Minnesota policies.
  • Knowledge of EOAA and commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Experience advising on HR policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft in an auditing capacity.
  • Understanding of employee relations and employment law.
  • Experience in a unionized HR environment.
