JUNIOR FORENSIC ANALYST
This role involves a structured salary progression, with potential increases based on performance and departmental needs.

We are currently seeking to build a pool of qualified candidates for future Junior Forensic Analyst openings within the County of Orange.

This recruitment aims to establish a list of eligible candidates for current and upcoming vacancies.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the department's requirements are fulfilled.

Junior Forensic Analysts are tasked with conducting a variety of scientific evaluations in areas such as crime scene processing, forensic biology, DNA analysis, toxicology, and evidence management.

This position serves as the foundational level in the forensic series.

Incumbents will work under the guidance of experienced forensic professionals, gaining exposure to essential laboratory operations, evidence handling, and fundamental analytical methodologies.

The Junior Forensic Analyst is expected to show growth in skill, motivation, and independence, indicating readiness for advancement to a higher classification.

Permanent status is not granted at this level, and individuals must successfully complete a probationary period to remain in the role.
ABOUT THE DIVISION

The Orange County Crime Laboratory (OCCL) employs rigorous scientific methodologies to collect, assess, and interpret physical evidence, thereby supporting criminal investigations and prosecutions within the county.


LABORATORY BUREAUS

The OCCL comprises five specialized bureaus:

  • Criminalistics Bureau: Provides crime scene investigation services and analyzes trace evidence.
  • DNA Bureau: Analyzes biological samples for DNA profiling in various criminal cases.
  • Forensic Chemistry Bureau: Conducts alcohol and toxicology analyses on samples.
  • Identification Bureau: Offers field services for evidence processing and fingerprint analysis.
  • CAL-ID Bureau: Manages automated fingerprint identification systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including checks for felony convictions and probation status.

All employment offers are contingent upon the completion of this investigation.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in forensic sciences or a related field, with laboratory experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform various physical tasks related to evidence collection and analysis.
