We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Prepared Foods Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. Key Responsibilities- Purchase and replenish prepared foods products through proper buying procedures, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving issues promptly.
- Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in inventory management to optimize product availability and minimize waste.
- Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, maintaining accurate records and reporting any discrepancies.
- Assist with counter service and cooking as scheduled or as necessary, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen manager/chef and team leader on ordering needs and issues, ensuring seamless collaboration and problem-solving.
- Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, negotiating prices and resolving any issues that may arise.
- Work with the team leader or assistant team leader(s) to cost recipes, ensuring accurate pricing and profitability.
- Oversee customer special order procedures, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.
- Support leadership in conducting inventories, maintaining accurate records and reporting any discrepancies.
- Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, while minimizing waste and optimizing product availability.
- Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and modeling suggestive selling techniques.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product, while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, maintaining a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing, and immediately reporting any safety hazards or violations.
- 1+ years of buying/merchandising experience, preferably in the food industry.
- Extensive product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.
- Ability to create and negotiate price bids, and maintain accurate records.
- Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study.
- Working knowledge and application of all prepared foods merchandising expectations, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Complete understanding of WFM margin program and profitability, and ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm.
- Strong basic math skills, and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
- Strong to excellent communication skills, and willingness to work as part of a team, delivering information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members, and follow directions and procedures, with effective time management and organization skills.
- Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market, and strong work ethic, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
- Understanding of and compliance with WFM quality goals, and ability to maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
- May require use of ladders.
