Position Overview

The Therapy Team Leader serves as a vital member of the leadership team, responsible for the strategic development and implementation of essential services that are crucial for the effective functioning of educational institutions. This role involves addressing a variety of complex challenges that align with the overarching policy framework.

To establish this position, the educational environment must exhibit sufficient diversity and complexity. Indicators of this role's scope may include management of significant school or district initiatives, projects, or targeted strategies.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of the Therapy Team Leader is to supervise, coordinate, and enhance the delivery of speech pathology and occupational therapy services to students throughout the institution. Additionally, this role includes active participation in the School Improvement Team, ensuring that therapy services are delivered through a consultancy model that promotes optimal learning outcomes for all students.

The Therapy Team Leader will mentor therapy staff and provide direct support to the therapy team as needed. This support may encompass:

  • Individual discussions, problem-solving sessions, and feedback for staff
  • Facilitation of professional development workshops and discussions
  • Participation in care team and classroom team meetings
  • Development and sharing of innovative resources to enhance classroom teaching practices

Collaboration with Assistant Principals in Inclusion & Wellbeing and Teaching & Learning is essential for the formulation of policies and guidelines regarding therapy service provision. The Therapy Team Leader will also guide therapists in crafting specific policies for various therapy support areas.

Regularly scheduled therapy team meetings and discipline-specific gatherings will be organized by the Therapy Team Leader, fostering positive partnerships between therapists and school staff. A portion of the clinical caseload will be retained by the Therapy Team Leader, contingent upon workload manageability and the therapy team's capacity.

Core Duties Include:

  • Ensuring therapists are well-informed about school policies and initiatives impacting therapy services
  • Coordinating the distribution of discipline-specific caseloads
  • Managing the overall delivery of therapy services
  • Facilitating therapists' participation in classroom team meetings
  • Organizing therapy team meetings and discipline-specific discussions
  • Overseeing therapists' professional development plans and performance reviews
  • Ensuring adherence to therapy service guidelines and school policies
  • Providing support for complex therapy service delivery matters
  • Promoting continuous professional development for the therapy team
  • Coordinating language assessments for funding requirements
  • Managing the therapy team's involvement in transition preparations for funding
  • Monitoring and supporting effective therapy service delivery
  • Overseeing mentoring initiatives for therapists
  • Developing and delivering discipline-specific training
  • Providing guidance on complex classroom and student matters
  • Maintaining compliance with therapy documentation procedures
  • Managing therapeutic resource inventory and procurement
