Lead Speech Pathologist and Therapy Coordinator

Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The Therapy Team Leader serves as a pivotal member of the leadership cadre, tasked with the formulation and execution of essential services that are crucial for the smooth functioning of educational institutions. This role encompasses a spectrum of services and the resolution of intricate challenges that align with the overarching policy framework.

To establish this role at a higher management level, the educational institution must exhibit sufficient diversity and complexity. Indicators of this include the oversight of significant school or district initiatives, projects, or targeted strategies.

It is essential to note that an education support class position is designed to enhance the educational services provided to students without encroaching upon the defined teaching responsibilities as outlined in relevant educational legislation. Supervision of students is only permissible when it is a fundamental aspect of the role or involves overseeing students in controlled, small group settings, ensuring that the primary responsibility remains with a qualified teacher.

Key Responsibilities

As a leader within the educational framework, the Therapy Team Leader is responsible for:

  • Overseeing, coordinating, and supporting the delivery of speech pathology and occupational therapy services to students throughout the institution.
  • Actively participating in the School Improvement Team to ensure that therapy services align with the educational philosophy and pedagogical strategies.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to therapy staff, focusing on professional development through various methods such as:
    • Individual discussions, problem-solving sessions, and constructive feedback.
    • Facilitating professional learning workshops and collaborative discussions.
    • Contributing to interdisciplinary care team meetings.
    • Promoting access to innovative resources that enhance effective teaching practices.
  • Collaborating closely with Assistant Principals to formulate policies and guidelines governing therapy service provision.
  • Establishing regular therapy team meetings and discipline-specific gatherings to foster positive partnerships with educational staff.
  • Maintaining a manageable clinical caseload while supporting the therapy team’s workload and capacity.

Core Duties Include:

  • Ensuring therapists are well-versed in school policies and initiatives affecting service delivery.
  • Coordinating the distribution of therapy caseloads.
  • Managing the overall delivery of therapy services across the institution.
  • Facilitating therapists' participation in classroom team meetings.
  • Scheduling and leading therapy team and discipline-specific meetings.
  • Overseeing professional development plans for therapists and evaluating performance.
  • Ensuring adherence to therapy service guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Providing support for complex therapy service delivery issues.
  • Promoting continuous professional growth within the therapy team.
  • Coordinating assessments and reports for funding requirements.
  • Managing communication and student services budgets.
  • Overseeing the procurement and management of therapeutic resources.
