Practical Nursing Specialist

Join the State of Ohio as a Practical Nursing Specialist, where you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Starting compensation is competitive and based on shift assignments.
As part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), you will have the opportunity to hold a multistate license, enabling you to practice across 37 states.
- Deliver patient care as instructed
- Accurately document patient-related care in the electronic health record
- Maintain comprehensive patient medical records
- Administer medications, including oral and intramuscular, and intravenous therapy if certified
- Execute medical treatments as required
- Assist with medical consultations
- Support chronic care management initiatives
- Engage in patient care planning and collaborative treatment activities
- Respond effectively to emergencies
- Provide emergency care and gather patient data
- Collect and document vital signs promptly
- Obtain urine and other bodily fluid specimens
- Perform venipuncture for laboratory blood samples
- Prepare patients for discharge or transfer by completing necessary documentation
- Ensure timely processing of discharge medication orders with pharmacy services
- Participate in ongoing training and institutional training sessions as assigned
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals
- Identify and document areas of concern
- Review shift reports from previous shifts
- Assist physicians during medical procedures
- Assume responsibilities of absent nursing staff
- Observe and support assistive personnel in patient care
- Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Carry out administrative tasks as needed
- Attend departmental meetings
- Schedule multidisciplinary team discussions
- Assist with inventory management and ordering of medical supplies
- Support ancillary staff to meet patient care requirements
- Availability for overtime as necessary
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid nursing license as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing, in accordance with state regulations. MDS certification from ANNAC is also required.
Essential Skills:
Nursing expertise, proficiency in medical procedures, direct patient support, medical documentation, medication administration, cultural competency, problem-solving abilities, customer service orientation, teamwork, and confidentiality.
