Job Title: Communications Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to join our team at The American Association of Immunologists. As a key member of our Membership & Engagement Department, you will play a critical role in shaping our communications strategy and developing engaging content to promote our mission and values.

About the Role:

The Communications Manager will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our communications strategy, working closely with our Director of Communications and Public Communications Committee. You will be responsible for creating and editing engaging scientific content about immunology and immunology research for a lay audience, as well as driving innovation in science communications and supporting our media relations strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote our mission and values
  • Write and edit engaging scientific content about immunology and immunology research for a lay audience
  • Drive innovation in science communications and identify new ways to engage a variety of audiences in science
  • Support our media relations strategy, including writing and drafting press releases, pitching, and securing media coverage and op-ed opportunities
  • Collaborate with our Marketing team to track efforts across social media calendar, email marketing calendar, and website content calendar
  • Measure communication effectiveness and report on data to suggest opportunities for optimization and improvement
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, biological science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing and leading content production that supports an organization's strategic needs
  • 5+ years of experience writing engaging and accurate content about scientific subjects for a lay audience
  • Experience with media relations, including writing press releases and securing media coverage
  • Knowledge of communication best practices, including SEO and accessibility
