We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Telecommunicator to join our team at Kandiyohi County, MN. As a key member of our dispatch center, you will be responsible for operating our 9-1-1 emergency phone system, computer-aided dispatch/records system, and sophisticated radio/telephone network.
Key Responsibilities- Emergency Call Handling: Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls, including 911 or administrative calls, and determine the nature and severity of emergencies.
- Dispatch and Coordination: Determine priorities and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units or agencies in accordance with established procedures.
- Record Keeping and Data Entry: Enter, update, and retrieve information in various computer systems, including preparing and updating computer-aided dispatch (CAD) reports and maintaining records management systems.
- Training and Certification: Serve as the Emergency Medical Telecommunicator instructor, training personnel in public safety telecommunications and emergency medical telecommunication, and ensuring staff certifications are maintained.
- Education and Experience: Related post-secondary education and telecommunicator experience preferred.
- Certifications and Skills: Must pass practical dispatcher test, oral interview, thorough background investigation, and psychological examination. Credit may be offered for prior telecommunicator experience and/or CJIS Certification.
- Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends required.
Kandiyohi County offers a complete benefits package to full-time employees, including health, dental, vision, PERA retirement, 457(b) deferred compensation plan, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Part-time employees who work an average of 20 hours per week over the course of a year receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.
