The Assistant Unit Director (AUD) plays a crucial role in leading and guiding unit staff to deliver high-quality care, support, and engaging activities for individuals in our care.

Reporting directly to the Unit Director, the AUD assists in planning, executing, and assessing unit operations and objectives. This role requires collaboration with various divisions and departments to foster positive working relationships among staff, families, and other facility personnel.

Key responsibilities include supervisory, consultative, and administrative tasks, alongside supporting the Unit Director in daily operations.

The AUD also acts as the safety officer for the unit, ensuring that safety drills are conducted efficiently and that any safety concerns are promptly addressed.

This position is essential in maintaining compliance with regulations and standards set forth by the Life Safety Code.

Furthermore, the AUD serves as the primary supervisor for Unit Supervisors, providing guidance on personnel matters and ensuring training compliance.

Responsibilities include monitoring staff deployment, approving leave, and managing overtime to ensure adequate staffing levels.

The AUD will also take on the role of Administrative Officer on Duty (AOD), addressing campus-wide issues and stepping in as the acting Unit Director when necessary.

The AUD is committed to safeguarding the individuals in our care by minimizing risks of abuse, neglect, and injury.


Core Responsibilities:

- Regular attendance and adherence to shift schedules, including potential on-call duties as needed.

- Foster positive relationships with employees, individuals served, families, and visitors to create a respectful and caring environment.

- Provide supervision and support to unit staff, ensuring effective service delivery in health, safety, and individual support planning.

- Implement performance management systems to enhance staff performance and attendance.

- Assist in conducting performance evaluations, providing timely feedback to staff.

- Monitor staff management systems to ensure adequate coverage and fair distribution of overtime.

- Conduct regular unit visits to oversee activities, ensuring safety and compliance with supervision levels and support plans.

- Ensure compliance with internal and external audits, promoting a safe and dignified environment for individuals served.

- Address financial responsibilities, including budget planning and inventory oversight.

- Participate in disaster response and recovery efforts as needed, which may require flexible scheduling.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with ICF/IID standards and facility policies.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other business software.
