Job Summary

The City of Brenham is seeking a highly skilled IT Systems Administrator II to provide monitoring, maintenance, and technical support for the City's various Information Technology systems. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of server hardware and software applications, as well as excellent technical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and upgrade Active Directory, user accounts, domain controllers, file servers, and print servers.
  • Ensure daily backup jobs occur on all assigned servers.
  • Coordinate and implement server hardware, server operating systems, and installed server-based applications.
  • Responsible for server security, firewall configuration, Microsoft updates, and other security patches.
  • Coordinate and implement Microsoft Hyper-V virtual server environment, including host servers and shared storage.
  • Coordinate and implement Microsoft Exchange, email archiving software, and spam filter software.
  • Coordinate and implement document management system software and server infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and implement Microsoft SQL server software and associated applications.
  • Coordinate and implement server infrastructure for Incode financial software.
  • Coordinate and implement web-filtering software.
  • Coordinate and implement functions of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, including Windows PC updates, software deployment, and client antivirus monitoring.
  • Monitor and maintain primary server room facility, including generator, HVAC systems, and UPSs.
  • Provide technical assistance to all City employees, especially when technical issues escalate within the I.T. department.
  • Obtain quotes and make informed purchasing suggestions for server infrastructure, related equipment, and software packages.
  • Respond to after-hours and weekend public safety technology related emergencies and needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field plus five years of experience preferred.
  • Methods, practices, and equipment used in information technology.
  • Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems and applications.
  • Server hardware.
  • SQL server.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, FTP, SSL/TLS, PKI, DFS, iSCSI, SAN technologies.
  • Data cabling.
  • Server virtualization.
  • Firewalls.
  • Disaster recovery.
  • Server backup strategies.
  • Network topology diagrams and flow charts.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing department records.
  • Department policies and procedures.
  • Standard office practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in A+, Network+, MCITP or MCSE.
Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent contact with other employees and the public. The employee must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff.
