Job Overview

Position Summary

The Service Apprentice is responsible for completing tasks assigned by the supervisor while gaining hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with a designated technician to acquire skills in delivering high-quality vehicle service and repairs.
  • Provides assistance to the assigned technician as required.
  • Transports customer vehicles to service areas as instructed by technicians.
  • Retrieves parts from the parts department as directed by technicians.
  • Conducts safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication tasks, basic maintenance, and minor repairs as instructed.
  • Restocks supplies as requested by technicians or the service manager.
  • Reports any machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Participates in training sessions and departmental meetings.
  • Utilizes all tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position:

  • No prior experience or training is required.
  • Less than a high school education; or up to one month of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A one-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Proficiency

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Capable of writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group settings.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively before groups.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations with two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide using 10's and 100's. Capable of performing these operations using units of American currency and measurements.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Capable of computing rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Capable of dealing with standardized situations with minimal variables.

Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must possess a valid Driver's License.
