As a Technical Sales Specialist, you will oversee all sales activities to achieve or surpass sales targets. This role encompasses traditional sales outreach and the coordination between clients and various internal departments (engineering, operations, quality assurance, inside sales, and finance). The Technical Sales Specialist must cultivate a strong situational awareness regarding customers, competitors, pricing, and programs to maintain existing business while effectively pursuing new opportunities. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing terms and conditions for both new and existing contracts, ensuring compliance with requirements from defense clients and government entities.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience in customer presentations.
- Familiarity with long-term project timelines.
- Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Act as the primary contact for new business inquiries.
- Collaborate with the Business Unit Manager, VP of Sales, and Engineering Team to evaluate Bid/NoBid decisions.
- Coordinate proposal development, including cost estimation.
- Finalize and submit proposals.
- Follow up with clients for feedback and action items post-submission.
- Monitor the status of new business opportunities and win rates.
- Manage proposals and contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
- Assist in contract negotiations as directed.
- Post-award, ensure that final terms are communicated to relevant departments for execution.
- Program Management: Serve as Program Manager for new business initiatives until transitioned to the Business Unit Manager or Project Engineer.
- Maintain involvement in program progress and client communication as necessary.
- Customer Service: Provide guidance to the Customer Service Team and serve as an escalation point.
- Train new Customer Service Representatives on terms and conditions and contract reviews.
- Conduct customer visits to strengthen relationships and secure new business.
- Travel is expected to be 30 to 50%, primarily within North America, with some opportunities in Central and South America and Europe.
- Collaborate closely with Outside Sales Representatives to enhance their effectiveness and understand international market opportunities.
- Planning and Sales Data Management: Prepare an annual sales forecast for both OEM and Aftermarket business, updating it quarterly and reviewing it with management.
- Conduct variance analysis between sales forecasts and actual performance, updating forecasts and developing mitigation plans as necessary.
- Perform profitability analysis by product or program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
- Knowledge of the Aerospace environment, products, and operational processes.
- Understanding of internal functions across all company departments.
- Strong technical and business acumen.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written; strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- At least two years of experience in technical OEM sales, engaging with customer engineers and procurement personnel.
