Job Summary

The Patient Services Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care in a physician office, clinic, or other operational area. This position provides administrative support to patients, assisting with tasks such as patient relations, check-in and check-out, scheduling, insurance verification, and answering phones.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with duties such as patient relations, check-in or check-out, scheduling, insurance verification, and answering phones.
  • Arrange follow-up visits and referral appointments.
  • Assist with patient registration duties by collecting and verifying insurance information.
  • Verify patient demographics and enter changes into the computer system.
  • Direct patients to appropriate waiting areas.
  • Accept payments for physician/clinic services according to established guidelines.
  • Post payments and enter charges into the computer utilizing appropriate codes.
  • Generate daily payment reports and verify cash drawer against report.
  • Provide accurate patient, medical, financial, or procedural information to patients or approved outside entities.
  • May be required to discuss financial arrangements with patients.
  • Receive and direct phone calls.
  • Assist patients and other visitors.
  • Respond to routine inquiries concerning practice services, hours of operation, etc.
  • Ensure any patient complaints are handled appropriately.
Requirements
  • Good listening, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Empathetic listener, sensitive, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious, and tactful.
  • Ability to promptly assess requests by using electronic and paper resource materials and correctly respond to patient inquiries.
  • Ability to calm upset patients in a composed and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigational skills, with attention to details.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and stressful environment.

Qualifications
  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent.
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience.
