As part of our ongoing efforts, we are seeking an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to provide comprehensive EHS support for our research operations and across the organization. This role involves the development, implementation, and assessment of EHS programs to ensure adherence to regulations set forth by OSHA, EPA, NRC, DNREC, NFPA, DEA, DOT, and others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage EHS programs encompassing chemical safety, biosafety, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, radioactive material management, office and laboratory ergonomics, environmental compliance, and general safety.
  • Design and execute EHS programs, procedures, and systems tailored to the needs of a growing organization.
  • Identify applicable safety and environmental regulations and standards relevant to our operations.
  • Effectively communicate requirements to research personnel and provide practical support to identify solutions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and correspondence utilizing computer databases and software applications.
  • Organize and conduct regular safety education and training sessions for all staff, creating courses to address specific EHS needs and determining the most effective delivery methods.
  • Engage in formal and informal safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe conditions, providing recommendations for corrective actions and tracking their implementation.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries to ascertain causes and formulate recommendations for prevention, assisting with risk management and worker's compensation claims.
  • Evaluate operations to identify potential hazards proactively and collaborate with internal teams to ensure safety and compliance while facilitating research activities.
  • Stay informed about new developments in the industry to maintain technical competence.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Experience in EHS support for research laboratories is essential; experience in the pharmaceutical sector is preferred.
  • A four-year degree (BA or BS) in safety, environmental protection, engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and presentation skills, with comfort in discussing requirements across all organizational levels.
  • Proven abilities in problem-solving and strategic thinking.
  • EHS-related certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are advantageous.
