Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Gonzaga University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We are looking for dedicated teacher-scholars who are committed to equity-minded teaching and have a proven record of scholarship. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Materials Science & Engineering, encompassing materials structure/properties, processing/manufacturing, and/or mechanics of materials.

We seek individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and can create welcoming and diverse learning environments. Initial teaching responsibilities will include courses in materials engineering, manufacturing processes, and mechanics of materials, with opportunities to teach senior-level courses in the candidate's area of interest as a technical elective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach a total of 18 credit hours per academic year, including courses in Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Processes.
  • Establish a research program in the candidate's area of expertise, encouraging undergraduate student participation and mentorship.
  • Provide academic and career advising to undergraduate students.
  • Engage in service to the Department, University, and discipline.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered with completion by the specified date).
  • Evidence of effective teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated scholarly/research agenda.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with inclusive teaching practices at the undergraduate level.
  • Proven ability to establish and manage a research program.
  • Postdoctoral or industrial experience.
