Position Details:
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Gonzaga University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek candidates who are passionate educators and scholars with a commitment to inclusive teaching practices. The successful candidate will possess expertise in Materials Science & Engineering, encompassing areas such as materials structure/properties, processing/manufacturing, and mechanics of materials.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to fostering diverse and welcoming learning environments. Initial teaching responsibilities will include courses in materials engineering, manufacturing processes, and mechanics of materials, with opportunities to teach senior-level courses in the candidate's area of expertise as technical electives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Deliver 18 credit hours of instruction annually, including courses in Materials Engineering and related subjects.
- Establish a research program that actively involves undergraduate students and disseminate findings through appropriate academic channels.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate students.
- Engage in departmental, university, and disciplinary service.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered if degree is completed by the specified date).
- Evidence of effective teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate level.
- Demonstrated scholarly activity and research agenda.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with inclusive teaching practices in undergraduate courses.
- Proven ability to establish and lead a research program.
- Postdoctoral or industrial experience.
