Job Overview

KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Building Operations Engineer. This role operates under the direct guidance of the Facilities Director. The Building Operations Engineer is tasked with the comprehensive maintenance, security, and overall management of multiple educational facilities and their surrounding grounds. This position entails budget oversight and management of contracted services.

In this capacity, the individual will ensure the effective functioning of the facility's infrastructure, including preventive maintenance and necessary repairs.

The Building Operations Engineer collaborates closely with school leadership and the operations team to address significant repairs and maintenance needs, ensuring that the facilities are equipped with adequate heating, lighting, ventilation, plumbing, and security systems for the safety and comfort of the KIPP Jacksonville community.

This role also involves directing and managing activities related to special projects, capital improvements, and other grant-related initiatives, as well as addressing deferred maintenance and system replacements as directed by the Facilities Director.

The Building Operations Engineer will primarily work at the McDuff campus during standard operational hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional requirements for weekend and holiday work.


Key Responsibilities

Facilities Management - 60%

- Execute preventive maintenance tasks and repairs as necessary.
- Oversee minor repairs and manage maintenance work performed by external vendors.
- Monitor the functionality of electrical and mechanical systems that support the facility's critical operations.
- Address daily work requests within established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Engage in facility remodeling, new construction, and other planning efforts.
- Propose and estimate facility repairs and enhancements for the annual budget.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Administrative Duties - 30%

- Manage and oversee school-specific facility budgets under the supervision of the Facilities Director.
- Oversee all capital and special projects as assigned by the Facilities Director.
- Ensure successful, timely, and cost-effective project completion.
- Supervise Custodian staff, ensuring they have established schedules and are informed of any facility-related concerns.

- Report issues, concerns, and deviations from project specifications, as well as physical building and site concerns, to the Facilities Director.


- Collaborate on initiatives to restore compliance.
- Attend all meetings as requested by the Facilities Director.
- Manage inventory and procure necessary materials, equipment, and supplies.

Operational Duties - 10%

- Hold regular meetings with the Principal and Director of Operations to identify facility-related issues and concerns.
- Respond to and manage emergencies as they arise.
- Coordinate with the Principal and Director of Operations regarding project scheduling and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with all school safety regulations and ordinances.

Compensation and Benefits
- Estimated salary range is $45,000-$54,000 annually.
