As an Ultrasound Technologist within our Maternal-Fetal Medicine department, you will be integral in performing ultrasound examinations that assess the health of high-risk mothers and their unborn children. Your expertise will support our maternal-fetal medicine specialists in diagnosing potential health issues and ensuring the best outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts obstetric ultrasound assessments for both inpatients and outpatients as directed by the attending physician.
- Assists the Perinatologist during invasive procedures, ensuring patient preparation and accurate documentation.
- Utilizes diagnostic equipment effectively, recognizing indications for its use.
- Generates permanent records of ultrasound examinations and prepares preliminary reports for review by the Perinatologist/Obstetrician.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment for patients and staff.
- Adheres to infection control protocols consistently.
- Employs computer skills in accordance with departmental policies for reporting, billing, and maintaining patient records.
- Facilitates and supports outpatient procedures such as amniocentesis and PUBS ultrasound.
- Collaborates with colleagues to ensure high-quality service delivery in a cost-effective manner.
- Fulfills all policies and procedures of Akron General Medical Center, demonstrating reliability and accountability in all tasks.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
- RDMS certification in Abdominal (AB) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a similar role.
Work Complexity:
- Requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to make sound judgments with minimal supervision.
- Must be capable of functioning effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weights and handle equipment regularly.
