Job Title: Water Plant Operator Trainee

US Water Services Corporation is a leading water and wastewater utility organization providing utility maintenance, operations, engineering, and construction services. As a fast-paced and rapidly expanding company, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Water Plant Operator Trainee to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Water Plant Operator Trainee will assist in the daily operations and maintenance of the drinking water plant, performing related work as required. This role involves operating and maintaining water treatment facilities, troubleshooting operational problems, and monitoring flow meters, gauges, and related controls.

Responsibilities:
  • Process and test equipment in a water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose operational problems and take corrective action per procedure and process knowledge.
  • Monitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures, and related controls through instrument panels and programmable logic control units in assigned area.
  • Monitor and record operating conditions observations and data in area shift log.
  • Ensure conformance to process specifications.
  • Verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to the supervisor.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance-related items as assigned.
  • Perform field laboratory tests (chemical and physical) to pace chemical dosages for efficient process control.
  • Ensure that all safety and environmental requirements are consistently achieved, including strict compliance.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have passed and possess certifications for an FDEP recognized water treatment plant operations course.
  • Must take and pass the Florida State Exam for drinking water plant operations within 18 months of hire date.
  • Currently holding a class 3 license for Collection & Distribution Systems Operations is not a requirement, but would be a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of drinking water plant operations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state laws, and administrative regulations with reference to drinking water treatment.
  • Knowledge of functions, servicing, and maintenance requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety regulations and standards.
Working Conditions:

The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

Special Licensing Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Certification Requirements:

As a condition of continued employment, the employee must obtain a Water Treatment Plant Operators License issued by the state in which the work is performed within 18 months of hire date.
