Position Overview

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the principal architect of the organization’s strategic vision, ensuring the seamless integration of various programmatic and educational initiatives into a cohesive operational framework. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO leads a seasoned executive team, overseeing all aspects of programming, financial stewardship, venue development, and operational management to foster resilience and sustainable growth. They cultivate extensive networks across the private, public, and corporate sectors to enhance the organization’s visibility, reputation, and community impact. As the chief ambassador for the organization, the CEO is committed to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the communities served.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning

Drive a comprehensive strategic planning process that enhances and integrates the organization’s core programmatic, diversity, and educational elements.

Establish meaningful relationships and set both immediate and long-term objectives that reflect a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and community engagement.

Revitalize a sustainable business model through innovative strategies that transition from conceptualization to actionable implementation.

Collaborate with the Main Stage Artistic Director, Vice President of Programming, and Conservatory President to ensure alignment across all departments with a focus on diversity initiatives.

Engage with the Board and senior leadership to align mission, vision, and values into a cohesive strategic direction that capitalizes on organizational strengths and responds to emerging trends.

Community and Donor Engagement

Enhance donor relationships and increase contributions in partnership with the Vice President of Advancement by identifying prospects and fostering engagement.

Build authentic connections with audiences, donors, partners, and community leaders as an integral member of the local community.

Identify and recruit diverse Board prospects in collaboration with the Governance Committee to ensure ongoing engagement and effective leadership succession.

Act as the public representative of the organization, supported by the senior leadership team and Board.

Foster positive relationships with local and national arts organizations, producers, and presenters in collaboration with the Main Stage Artistic Director.

Financial Sustainability and Growth

Evaluate and adapt the existing business model to ensure positive organizational and community outcomes.

Develop a comprehensive financial plan, including capital, operating, and endowment strategies, in partnership with senior leaders to prepare for future initiatives.

Assess the feasibility of financial campaigns and implement strategies to align aspirations with donor readiness and economic conditions.

Work with the senior leadership team to explore new revenue opportunities from ticket sales and other ancillary income streams.

Team Culture and Inclusion

Review the organizational structure to ensure alignment with strategic goals and business models.

Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and teamwork by providing necessary information for effective decision-making.

Encourage a workplace environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, fostering engagement and participation across all levels.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, along with a minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in the arts, nonprofit management, or related fields is required. Proven success in enhancing revenue streams, building strategic partnerships, and increasing community involvement is essential. Strong financial acumen and a deep appreciation for the performing arts are expected. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility is crucial. Experience leading a senior team with effective communication skills is vital. A passion for the performing arts and commitment to arts education is preferred.
