The Role

We are seeking an Animal Care Associate to join our team at the San Francisco SPCA. As an Animal Care Associate, you will play a critical role in providing daily care and attention to the animals in our shelter. This includes feeding, cleaning, and providing enrichment activities to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of our animals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily care and attention to animals in the shelter, including feeding, cleaning, and providing enrichment activities
  • Monitor animal behavior and report any changes or concerns to supervisors
  • Assist with animal intake, evaluation, and treatment
  • Participate in stress and disease reduction efforts through purposeful and compassionate handling and placement of animals in the shelter environment
  • Follow established disease control protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for animals and staff
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service experience
  • Available to work weekends and holiday shifts as needed
  • Highly motivated, outgoing, respectful, and professional
  • Team player capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of animal breeds, animal behavior, and previous experience with animal handling preferred but not required
  • Computer skills in a Windows environment
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of The San Francisco SPCA
Salary and Benefits

Regular, part-time positions over 20 hours/week are eligible for a benefits package that is adjusted based on their total hours. Part-time under 20 hours a week, On-Call, Temporary, and Seasonal positions are eligible for only those benefits provided by law. All positions are eligible for discounts on veterinary care at our SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital and Spay/Neuter Clinic at Mission Campus.
