Heavy Equipment Service Specialist

Holt CAT stands as the premier Caterpillar dealership for heavy machinery in the United States. We are currently seeking a full-time Heavy Equipment Service Specialist to join our team.

This role entails delivering direct customer support at various locations, focusing on the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of diesel-powered heavy machinery and associated components, adhering to established protocols and standards.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of experience in diesel-powered heavy machinery repair in a field setting is preferred.
  • MSHA certification is a plus.
  • Air conditioning certification is advantageous.
  • Crane/Rigger certifications are desirable.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program is favored.
Additional Requirements:
  • A valid Driver's license is mandatory.
  • Ability to secure a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of all necessary mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard) is required.
  • Willingness to travel, including potential overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to safety protocols at all times and comply with all company policies and standards.
  • Conduct minor repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal oversight.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures with minimal supervision.
  • Remove and install parts, as well as disassemble and reassemble basic components.
  • Test, adjust, and confirm the proper functioning of all repairs and modifications.
  • Complete all job-related documentation, including service reports, parts orders, and customer records; access necessary databases to fulfill job requirements.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles, ensuring possession of all required licenses and certifications.
  • Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily logs, and adhere to Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT regulations.
  • Keep all company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good, clean, and operational condition.
  • Communicate job status to supervisors and customers as necessary.
  • Complete assigned tasks to meet flat rate time and rework standards.
  • Work overtime as needed based on workload and customer demands.
  • Finish all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training promptly and proficiently.
  • Exhibit professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may serve as a mentor to junior Technicians.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment, including their design, usage, repair, and maintenance.
  • Fundamental understanding of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with current software and hardware, along with basic knowledge of machine electronic systems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Basic diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Planning and organizational skills to prioritize and manage work activities efficiently.
  • Operational skills for equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate cranes and forklifts, and obtain necessary certifications/licenses.
  • Capability to meet deadlines and work in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment for mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to perform precise movements with hands to manipulate or assemble small objects.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be capable of moving objects and using abdominal and lower back muscles for support over extended periods.
  • Frequently handle materials or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to ascend and descend using both hands and feet, including climbing ladders and equipment.
  • Must maneuver safely and work underneath machinery.
  • Regularly respond to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and visually inspect work.
