Job Summary

The Town of Bluffton is seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector I to join our team. As a key member of our Building Safety Division, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all building codes and regulations in the Town of Bluffton.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Code Enforcement: Conduct thorough inspections of construction sites and structures to ensure compliance with all building codes and regulations.
  • Communication: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with building officials, contractors, architects, engineers, and the general public.
  • Inspection and Reporting: Conduct inspections, document findings, and prepare reports to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Education and Training: Educate and train superintendents and subcontractors on code compliance and efficiency.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on code-related issues and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Disaster Response: Participate in post-disaster recovery plans, including conducting on-site inspections of properties following declared disasters.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, and five (5) years of work experience in the building construction field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes related to building construction; knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, operations, and materials; and skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
