Assistant Store Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, well-organized store with a customer-first focus. This position assists the Store Manager in supervising store employees, managing merchandise, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting and assisting customers, and operating cash registers to itemize purchases.
  • Assist with scheduling employees, providing training, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Manage merchandise, including receiving, stocking, and rotating products on shelves and building displays.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels by controlling damages, markdowns, and scanning merchandise.
  • Implement and maintain planograms, ensuring merchandise is presented according to established practices.
  • Ensure financial integrity of the store through strict cashier accountability, key control, and cash control procedures.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, perform mathematical calculations, and operate cash registers.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check-out stations and stock merchandise.
  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional climbing using step ladders.
