Assistant Store Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the success of our stores by providing exceptional customer service, managing store operations, and leading a team of retail professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Provide a positive shopping experience for customers by greeting and assisting them, operating a cash register, and resolving customer complaints.
  • Store Operations: Assist the Store Manager with scheduling employees, training staff, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Merchandise Management: Receive, unpack, stock, and rotate merchandise on shelves, and maintain accurate inventory levels by controlling damages, markdowns, and scanning.
  • Financial Management: Authorize and sign for refunds and overrides, count register tills, and deposit money in the bank.
  • Team Leadership: Assist the Store Manager in managing the store in their absence, and provide guidance and support to store employees.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
  • Skills: Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; good organization skills with attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check out stations, stock merchandise, and unload trucks.
  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing (using step ladder) up to heights of six feet.
  • Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
