Nuclear Survivability Scientist Role

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a skilled Nuclear Survivability Scientist to join our Algorithms, Modeling, and Assessments (AMA) Division. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of critical technologies for our projects and national security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of systems, sensors, communications, and assets operating in nuclear environments.
  • Develop and maintain requirements and standards for system and personnel survivability.
  • Perform studies and trade space analysis for sensor performance and system design.
  • Conduct modeling and simulation of ballistic missile defense systems and high-altitude nuclear effects.
  • Present technical briefings, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Identify gaps in technology and nuclear weapon effects modeling and simulation, and develop solutions to address these gaps.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement software applications and models for nuclear weapon effects and survivability.
  • Conduct verification and validation of models, algorithms, and results.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or Engineering with 10-12 years of experience, or Master's degree in Physics or Engineering with 8-10 years of experience.
  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret or Top-Secret DoD security clearance.
  • Strong background in nuclear weapon effects and nuclear survivability.
  • Expertise in modeling and simulation, system analysis, and communication and RF system operation and analysis.
  • Experience with radiation physics and its impact on systems, sensors, and military assets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics or Engineering with 5-7 years of experience.
  • Experience with nuclear weapon effects, RF communication systems, or nuclear survivability.
